Zero waste" is an approach that aims to reduce the amount of waste to our waste production as much as possible. The objective is to change its mode of operation. consumption at source, recycling is not enough.
It is above all an individual approach. Everyone has the ability, through simple actions, to reduce their waste. Preserving the planet we live on is now the number one priority and it is necessary to promote this way of life to the general public.
6 points constitute the "zero waste" approach according to the Association ZÉRO WASTE FRANCE :
- Reduce the disposable and in particular our use of plastic by choosing alternatives. ZÉRO WASTE is campaigning for the reinstatement of the instructions in France.
- Compost and sort bio-waste (food scraps, garden waste, etc.) so that only unavoidable bio-waste ends up in the bin, which will then be composted or methanized.
- Extend the life of objects by acting from the design stage, i.e. favouring the use of recycled raw materials, durable or easily repairable materials.
- Better sorting and recycling by acting at source. Recyclable or compostable waste directed towards the right recycling channels will improve the quality of materials.
- Combat polluting treatments, particularly when landfilling is considered polluting. Local associations are trying to enforce the standards.
- Incentive levers: promote the general tax on polluting activities which penalises any tonne of waste sent to landfill or incineration.
